Stoner expecting to battle for victory in Sachsenring

Chasing a third consecutive victory in 2008, Casey Stoner has confidence in what he and the Ducati Desmosedici GP8 can do at Sachsenring this weekend. Casey Stoner in the Ducati Marlboro garage

Preparing for his second MotoGP race at the Sachsenring circuit when the World Championship arrives in Germany, Casey Stoner is the man of the moment in the premier class. The current title holder was equally as dominant in practice at last year´s race as he has been over the past two Grands Prix in Donington and Assen, but this season he is looking to also end his weekend on the top step of the podium.

`We feel quite confident for Sachsenring, where we were already competitive last year and it was only an issue with tyre life that prevented us from fighting for victory,´ says the Ducati Marlboro rider, whose 2007 teammate Loris Capirossi gave Bridgestone their first podium at the track. With these facts and his current purple patch in mind, Stoner is relishing the chance to take his own first Sachsenring victory.

`I´m sure this (tyre) problem won't happen again this year because Bridgestone have not stopped working and they continually bring us great new material. The bike has been perfect for the last two races and I expect it to go well at Sachsenring too,´ proclaims the Australian.

`The track is a little different to most of the others because there are such long corners, which I don´t like too much, but there are also some fun points and I´m happy to go racing there. It´s been nice to have a few days´ rest after such a demanding month - a weekend off isn´t exactly a holiday but it´s just enough to get your breath back and prepare for the next races.´

Stoner has only once raced a MotoGP machine at the Sachsenring circuit, having suffered a concussion in the warmup that put him out of the 2006 race. His previous best placing in the lower cylinder categories was a second place in the 250cc class.
